DMA Scholarship with the University of Dayton

In 1993, DMA established a scholarship with the University of Dayton. Every year, UD provides this award to one student who is pursuing a major in Computer Science, Computer Info Systems, or Management Info Systems on a full-time basis.

Linux Installfest

Linux Installfest is held once or twice a year by the Linux SIG to help those who are interested in the Linux operating system. Usually held at Sinclair College, attendees are offered several informative sessions on Linux topics, plenty of help with installing Linux on the computer hardware they bring with them, and experienced Linux users to answer questions. Sinclair College generously sponsors the event, providing meeting rooms, pizza, and soft drinks. The event is free. Anyone is welcome to attend. No reservations needed.

Participation

Hamvention

Hamvention https://hamvention.org/ is held in mid-May every year at the Greene County Fairgrounds, hosted by the Dayton Area Radio Association (DARA). This is the world’s largest amateur radio conference and product exhibition. Many DMA members are also amateur radio operators who volunteer their time to help with Hamvention, not as representatives of DMA, but as individuals who want to see this event continue to thrive.

Tandy Assembly

This three day event is held in September or October in Springfield Ohio, reportedly “The Greatest Tandy Show on Earth!” A Tech Track is held on Friday, offering highly-technical and informative classes taught by some of the leading figures in the vintage Tandy Radio Shack TRS-80 community. Saturday and Sunday are for exhibitors showing and demonstrating their extensive collections of Tandy equipment. free technical sessions, and networking with die-hard Tandy enthusiasts. DMA first participated in 2023 with a table display and a talk by Stephen Frey.

Techfest

Techfest https://www.techfestdayton.org/ is held in mid-February every year at Sinclair College, hosted by the Affiliate Societies Council (ASC) of Dayton. This event is two days packed full of science and technology for school children and their families. The more than 70 hands-on displays and free sessions are provided by local corporations, colleges, and nonprofits. The event is free to exhibitors and to attendees. DMA usually sends three teams: Dayton Computer Museum, Linux SIG, DMA.

Social

Summer Picnic

DMA hosts a Summer Picnic each year at Shellabarger Park. The event begins at noon. DMA provides brats, burgers, and soft drinks, and door prizes. Attendees bring a covered dish to share. Members, non-members, and alumni are welcome to attend. Tickets are required.

Holiday Dinner

DMA hosts a Holiday Dinner each year in December, usually at TJ Chumps in Huber Heights. The event begins with a dinner ordered off the menu. A few words from the DMA President are followed by awards and door prizes. Members, non-members, and alumni are welcome to attend. Tickets are required.
