Founded by fellow member Gary Ganger, now curator emeritus of the Dayton Computer Museum, this program of the Non-profit Dayton Microcomputer Association, Inc. (DMA) was created through a combination of his computer collection and equipment donated by fellow DMA members and his friends.

Now, after many generous contributions, the Dayton Computer Museum collection comprises an extensive collection of discontinued, legacy, and classic computer equipment. Since the DMA is one of the oldest computer user groups in the world, our collection also includes documents on how the DMA and other Computer User Groups have served computer enthusiasts for nearly 50 years. Provenance, as well as how the exhibit and collection items were used, is important to the Dayton Computer Museum volunteers.

For many years, Gary has supported legacy equipment through his leadership in the DMA’s Special Interest Groups and, along with Curator Stephen Frey and other volunteers, has maintained many of these museum exhibits in working condition.

A small portion of the museum’s collection is exhibited at TechFest, an independent annual event held at Sinclair College, and, for over 40 years, at many other museum outreach events throughout the year. Recently, our museum volunteers have made a sample of our collection available at our workshop by appointment only for Dayton visitors to experience. DMA volunteers are in the process of finding a building to adequately display this collection so it can become a much larger, thriving museum and resource for Dayton-area residents and visitors. The Dayton Computer Museum conducts monthly informal Zoom meetings to update interested parties on museum news. All DMA meetings are free and open to the public.

The DMA, on behalf of the Dayton Computer Museum, is affiliated with APCUG as well as the prestigious Dayton Foundation, which has offered to convert nearly any type of donation (except computers) into money. Donations, including buildings, cryptocurrency, and even grain(!) given to the DMA can be converted into funds through the Dayton Foundation.
